The Lacuna Method for Fungal Nail Infections
A fungal nail infection can be painful and annoyingly persistent. They most commonly affect toenails but can be found on fingernails too, usually spreading from the outer edges of the nail inwards along the nail bed.
There are a few methods that can be recommended to treat a fungal nail infection but for severe or chronic infections, The Lacuna Method could be the answer for you! We offer The Lacuna Method in Gosforth from our safe, clean, professional clinic. Our fully qualified chiropodist will carry out the treatment.
What does The Lacuna Method Involve?
The Lacuna Method involves using a small drill to painlessly create micro-holes in your nail. This allows any topical fungal nail treatments to better access the infected nail bed below. The amount and layout of these micro-holes will be determined after an assessment by your podiatrist. They will be placed strategically to provide the best access to the infected sites, where the infection might spread, and how large the nail is.
How long will the micro-holes be there?
The micro-holes will disappear naturally as your nail grows. Dependent on how fast your nails grow and the placement of the micro-holes you could have them for anywhere between six weeks and six months. You should also consider that depending on the success of the initial treatment, more micro-holes may need to be added as the hole grows past the infected areas of the nail bed.
