If you’re wondering what to expect from your first physiotherapy appointment, our blog will guide you through everything from initial assessment to treatment plans.

Here at Gosforth Physio & Wellness, our physiotherapists are registered and accredited, to ensure that each of our clients receives highly-specialised and expert treatment. Whether you’re considering physiotherapy in Newcastle for a long-standing health concern or a newly emerging pain, understanding what to expect during your initial appointment can help alleviate any anxiety that you may have.

1.       Initial Assessment & Consultation

When you arrive at our clinic, one of our physiotherapists will conduct a thorough assessment to understand the root cause of your problem. This involves asking detailed questions about your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle. We'll also examine the affected area to identify any underlying issues.

2.       Comprehensive Analysis

Our physiotherapists will then take the time to analyse your injury, dysfunction, or faulty movement patterns. This involves observing your movements from various angles and identifying any underlying causes.

3.       Personalised Treatment Plan

Once we've established the cause of your problem, we'll educate you about the findings and discuss your treatment options. We'll create a personalised treatment plan that may include:

·       Manual therapy: Techniques including massage, mobilisation, and manipulation to address muscle tension and improve joint function.

·       Exercises: Tailored exercises to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and enhance overall function.

·       Education: Guidance on self-management techniques and lifestyle modifications to support your recovery.

4.       Treatment Frequency and Duration

The number of physiotherapy sessions you'll need will depend on the complexity of your condition, with most non-complicated acute problems being resolved within 3-6 sessions. However, chronic conditions or complex injuries may require more extended treatment.
